ISO Certification Mumbai


The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) biomethanation-cum-power generation plant that processes garbage set up in ward no 34, Model Colony has been awarded ISO 9001: 2008 certificate for standard management system.

Announcing the award on Thursday, corporator Jyotsna Sardeshpande said the project was started in November 2009 to dispose of garbage generated in the same municipal ward. Five tonne garbage collected from all hotels as well as 40% of domestic garbage is processed every day in this biogas project. Power generated by using the biogas lights 225 street lamps.




She said the garbage processing plant was developed as a pilot project. Power generation started in February 2010. The generated power is being used for lighting street lamps since March 2010. A total of 2,400 tonne garbage has been processed since the project was started, and 48,000 unit power was generated.

Jyotsna said the total savings due to the project on account of power bill, transport expenditure for garbage vans, land fill and capping is about Rs20 lakh. The surplus power generated from the plant could be used for other purposes, besides claiming carbon credit for the project.
